While establishing Ghosh & Co., economic success was never the solitary pursuit for our founder; he was rather fueled by his earnest desire for holistic community upliftment. His legacy is therefore etched into the very soil of Basantapur, where he went on to establish a public healthcare center, dedicated to helping the residents of Basantapur for their medical needs. This healthcare center soon became an essential institution that continue to serve as pillars of hope and development even today.
LEGACY
OUR
The Bridge of Legacy: From the vintage lanes of Howrah to the hubs of North Kolkata
In the annals of Bengal’s culinary history, few stories resonate with as much grit and grace as that of our visionary founder, Shri Jatindranath Ghosh, whose journey was not merely one of commerce, but rather a testament to the true transformative power of Bengal's perseverance.
From extremely humble beginnings, marked by relentless struggle through personal loss and hardships at a very early age, Shri Jatindranath Ghosh’s unwavering dedication gradually saw him rise from being merely the son of a farmer to the statute of prestigious estate ownership and maintenance in the verdant heart of Basantapur, Howrah.
Ma er Dhaak to Kolkatar Daak:
Where Zamindari Bonedi Tradition evolved into artisanal Bengali craftsmanship
At the center of the Ghosh family’s heritage lies our Bonedi Durga Puja. What began as a family tradition, grew into one of Basantapur village’s grandest celebration. For decades, the gates of our Basantapur estate have swung wide open during the auspicious days of Pujo, feeding the entire village in a display of communal harmony and selfless service.
Â
In Bengal, Durga Puja is more than a festival; it is the soul’s homecoming. For eons, it has been an essential economic and cultural engine that has sustained and motivated artisans, weavers, and most significantly—the confectioners of the state.
There is a profound, rhythmic interlude between our family Pujo and the craft of artisanal dessert-making. Just as the Pratima (idol) of Ma is sculpted with sacred clay, our sweets too are sculpted with a devotion that mirrors a prayer to the divine.
Our Shondesh and Roshogolla offered to Ma Durga during Pujo are not merely desserts; rather they are an extension of the Bhog, a sweet sanctification of the bond between the creator and the community. This deep-rooted spiritual connection to the "KoraPaak", the art of sugar tempering, is what truly separates a mere confectioner from a heritage house.

The Journey that traversed the Heritage Lanes of Bidhan Sarani to the Serene Avenues of Salt Lake City

As the mantle of crafting heritage desserts later passed on to his sons, their business expanded with a conscious effort to preserve this "Old Calcutta" charm while embracing the changing tides of time. The family brought their ancestral heritage to the intellectual and cultural hub of North Kolkata, opening their first flagship store at 22/1 Bidhan Sarani, Kolkata in 1958.
Â
This transition marked the birth of a household name. Today, that legacy has grown into a prestigious network of 8 branches. Our recent expansions represent a bridge between the vintage charm of the North and the modern elegance of the East.
Â
Our 7th branch at BG Block in Salt Lake Sector 2, opened last year in August 2025 to bring heritage flavors to a new generation of dessert connoisseurs. Soon thereafter, on March 15, 2026, Ghosh & Co.'s most recent branch opened its gates for the very first time at DB Block in Salt Lake Sector 1, at a prime spot near CA Island, standing shoulders with the city’s most premium designer houses and luxury boutiques.
A Permanent Guest in All of Your Cherished Memories
Our commitment to excellence has been recognized on the highest stages, earning us the Cadbury Shera Shristy Award (2019) and numerous Critics' Choice accolades. As corporate partners to the city's finest five-star hotels, we continue to redefine the boundaries of Bengali confectionery.

However, our greatest reward remains unmeasured by trophies. It is found in the quiet moments of a Bijoya Dashami greeting, the joy of a newborn's first taste of Payesh, and the nostalgia shared over a box of our signature sweets.

At Ghosh & Co., we have evolved from being a store on the corner to becoming a permanent guest in your family stories. We are the flavor of your celebrations, the sweetness of your reunions, and the keepers of a 75-year-old heritage that began with one man’s dream in Basantapur.
