In the annals of Bengal’s culinary history, few stories resonate with as much grit and grace as that of the visionary founder of Ghosh & Co., Shri Jatindranath Ghosh, whose journey was not merely one of commerce, but rather a testament to the true transformative power of Bengal's perseverance.
From very humble beginnings, marked by relentless struggle through personal loss and hardships, Shri Jatindranath’s unwavering dedication gradually saw him rise from being merely the son of a farmer to the statute of prestigious estate development, ownership and maintenance in the verdant heart of Basantapur, Howrah.
The Sacred Craft: Where Tradition Meets the KoraPaak
At the center of the Ghosh family’s identity lies the Bonedi Durga Puja. What began as a private family devotion grew into the village’s grandest celebration. For decades, the gates of the Basantapur estate have swung wide during the auspicious days of Pujo, feeding the entire village in a display of communal harmony and selfless service.
In Bengal, Durga Puja is more than a festival; it is the soul’s homecoming. It is an economic and cultural engine that sustains artisans, weavers, and—most significantly—the confectioner. There is a profound, rhythmic interlude between the family Pujo and the craft of artisanal sweet-making. Just as the Pratima (idol) is sculpted with sacred clay, our sweets are sculpted with a devotion that mirrors a prayer.
The Sandesh and Roshogolla offered to the Goddess are not merely desserts; they are an extension of the Bhog, a sweet sanctification of the bond between the creator and the community. This deep-rooted spiritual connection to the "KoraPaak" (the art of sugar tempering) is what separates a mere confectioner from a heritage house.

As the mantle passed on to his sons, the empire expanded with a conscious effort to preserve this "Old Calcutta" charm while embracing the changing tides of time. The family brought their ancestral heritage to the intellectual and cultural hub of North Kolkata, opening the first flagship branch at 22/1 Bidhan Sarani, Kolkata.
